Jack Wolfskin's fiberfill sleeping bags

03-04-2017 -

No question that we are unstoppable heading into the summer. In most European countries we have the chance to experience and enjoy the gifts of the spring. And with these warmer seasons we have to count on the growing interest in the outdoor sports, such as hiking, trekking, whatsoever...

And we all know it very well that the usage of sleeping bags has not ended with the school and with the summer camp. Because the people that call themselves hikers, trekkers, or simply members of the outdoor community, quite often face the "problem" of sleeping under the Sky. It can be more problematic if you are on a longer tour, so you change your camping position and you spend the nights at different places. That means you have to set up your tent at the end of every day, and of course you have to take it down before leaving the place. These processes can be very tiring and tiresome at the same time if you are not an experienced one. And the tent is just one part of the problem, there are the mattresses and the sleeping bags as well. So first of all you have to get these pieces of equipment before you face the wilderness.

So besides the tent there are still items that you have to look after. And my opinion is the main aspects in case of a sleeping bag are the warmth they provide and the size/mass they have. All manufacturers are focusing to these points and keep developing their products with every season. Let see what Jack Wolfskin has prepared for us with its fiberfill family of sleeping bags.

Beautiful South is our first sleeping bag that we would like to introduce you. This is a very comfortable bedroll mostly for warmer weather. The rectangular shape provides best freedom of movement and thanks to the all-round zip, the bag can be opened out flat for use as a double bed cover. The MICROGUARD SOFT fill and THERMOZONE construction means the insulation is adapted to suit different parts of the body. The bag is lined with a smooth textured, skin-friendly POLYCOTTON fabric (65% Polyester and 35% cotton).

The One Kilo Bag is the next product. Low weight, a tiny pack size and an extra broad mummy shape provide our perfect comfort. (This modell can also opened out as a large flat bed cover.) The One Kilo Bag also has MICROGUARD SOFT fill and THERMOZONE construction that suit perfectly your body. And it is lined with skin-friendly SOFTTOUCH PONGEE 75D. And here you can see the sister of this model, that is designed for women. Both sex's models are made of 100% polyester (shell, lining, filling).

Our next warrior is the Purple Haze which with its low weight and compact pack size is ideal for lightweight trips in the warmer half of the year. The most common users of this product are cyclers or those who like canoe trips. But the Purple Haze is also perfect for walking or multi-day trekking tours as well. The MICROGUARD SOFT SILVER fill and THERMOZONE TECHNOLOGY provide a comfortable night’s sleep. Except the filling (98% polyester, 2% metal) all parts contain 100% polyester.

Our last line of defence is the Black Ice. This is a "heavy weight" competitor, since it is the warmest synthetic fill sleeping bag in the Jack Wolfskin range. It incorporates a luxurious MICROGUARD SOFT SILVER fill and an additional layer of fleece with embedded metallic particles, which means the bag warms up faster and body heat is reflected back to the body. The insulation performance is ramped up by the inclusion of a thermal collar, a snug hood and the use of THERMOZONE TECHNOLOGY at areas that are particularly sensitive to the cold. The BLACK ICE can be a good substitute for a down bag for chilly winter camping. Except the filling (98% polyester, 2% metal) all parts contain 100% polyester.

Except the Black Ice most bags comfort temperature that they were designed for is + 8 °C or +10 °C. And +24 °C is the max that they can be used. In these cases we don't really use sleep sacks. The Black Ice is an exception of course, it is made for really tough cold weather, its comfort temperature is -7 °C.

We very much hope that you find useful this little overview on Jack Wolfskin's fiberfill sleeping bags. These four (kind of) beauties will definitely help you out there when it comes to sleeping.
